NEWS OF PEOPLE AND CHURCHES

Revd Alan Gaunt  was honoured with two other URC hymn writers (Brian Wren and Fred Kaan) with a special presentation at General Assembly.  We are pleased to learn that he has just accepted the Presidency of the URC Musicians Guild.  We wish him well in all he does in this capacity. 

Rosalind Goodfellow, first woman and lay person to be Moderator of the URC General Assembly.  The Memorial Service for Rosalind, will be held on Wednesday 15 October 2008 at 5.00pm at The Temple Church, Temple, London EC4.

Revd Leslie Guthrie, minister at St. Andrew’s Douglas, is to marry Jean Miller on 25^th October.  We offer the happy couple our good wishes and pray God’s blessing on their marriage.

On 26^th September a memorial service was held for Donald Pratt at Eshe Road URC.  Donald served the Synod and the District over many years as Lay Preaching Commissioner, District Secretary and Pastoral  Committee member and was a well respected lay preacher.   A large congregation gathered to pay their respects to this committed man of God.

Glanville Rees celebrates 60 years in ministry this year.  There will be a celebration service to mark this special occasion at 3.00 pm at Port Sunlight on 2^nd November.

We are pleased to welcome Revd Martin Truscott to Mersey Synod.  Martin will be inducted to St. Andrew’s Hoylake with Meols at 3.00 pm on 1^st November.

Manor Church Centre Wallasey are holding a Centenary Celebration Service on 5^th October.

Westminster Road URC, Liverpool have taken the decision to close.  The Closing Service will be held on 11^th October.

On Sunday 19th October at Alsager URC at 6.30 pm the Union Street Baptist Choir will present the Christian Musical "Greater than Gold".

Marlowe Road URC are holding a week’s programme of events to celebrate their 95^th Anniversary culminating in an Anniversary Service on Sunday 19^th October, Preacher: Revd Howard Sharp

Newton-le-Willows  are holding a Celebration Service on becoming an LEP with the Methodist Church on  19^th October at  3.30 pm.

There will be an Organ Recital by Revd David Cooper at Congleton URC at 7.30 pm on Friday
